Roger Broome

Program Director Emeritus, Lead Instructor

Roger Broome is a seasoned fundraising professional with 41 years of experience in a wide variety of organizations, Roger is Founder, and President of Broome & Lawson, Inc., a full service consulting firm established in 1995.  His career began at the Juilliard Conservatory in New York in 1968, and continued at Lincoln Center, The New England Conservatory in Boston, and A Better Chance, Inc.  From 1980 to 1993 he was director, then vice president for development at Tufts University.  As a consultant, his clients have included a wide range of educational, cultural, healthcare and international relations organizations.  Roger is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Harvard Business School.

 

 

Tom Hunt

Planned Giving Instructor

Tom Hunt is a founding member of Gift Planning & Charitable Gift Annuity Services, LLC, providing services to charitable foundations, their donors, and non-profit organizations throughout the northeast.  He is an attorney, as well as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Accredited Estate Planner (AEP).  As a creative gift planner, Hunt prepared one of the very first charitable remainder “flip” trusts in the nation, and has produced $250,000,000 of planned gifts.  His insight and analytical skills have helped countless donors to joyfully achieve their gift objectives and derive the greatest sense of personal satisfaction in making their gifts.

 

 

Jon Schaffrath

Jon Schaffrath was born in Chatham, New Jersey, and raised in Dover, Massachusetts. A graduate of Boston College (BS with majors in General Management and English) he has spent the majority of his professional life focused on the fields of hospitality and higher education. Jon’s career in nonprofit fundraising began in the Harvard Business School Development Office in 2006; he has been fundraising for HBS for the past seven years in a handful of different positions, most recently managing class based fundraising.

Since 2009, Jon has been a Teaching Assistant at the Harvard Extension School as a part of a team teaching Principles and Practices of Fundraising, and Development Communications. In 2011, he began as an Instructor at the Boston University Center for Professional Education teaching in both the online and face-to-face fundraising courses. Jon has an MBA from Babson College with a Marketing Concentration in addition to a number of fundraising credentials including: CASE Summer Institute, Boston University Certificate in Professional Fundraising, Ellen Estes Planned Giving, and Penelope Burke’s Donor Centered Fundraising.
