Carolynn Tomin, CFP®

Program Director and Instructor

Carolynn TominCarolynn is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional who specializes in financial education. She is the Program Director of Boston University’s online and classroom CFP® certification education programs and has augmented the development of BU’s online program for the past ten years. She has co-authored an estate planning textbook, Principles of Estate Planning, which is used in many financial planning education programs.

Carolynn has taught estate planning courses, virtual reviews, and CFP® Certification Exam reviews for 19 years at colleges in Massachusetts and Florida, and for many banks and financial service companies in both states.

As co-founder of a financial education company, Beacon Hill Financial Educators, Carolynn has presented continuing education courses to many financial service corporations and organizations, including NAPFA and the FPA. Her former positions include Director of Financial Planning Programs at Merrimack College and Regional Director of the Social Security Disability Program in Massachusetts.

Carolynn was appointed the 2012 Chair of CFP Board’s Council on Education, and had previously served as a member of the Council from 2009-2011. She has been a member of the FPA for many years, and has served on the Board of Directors for the southwest Florida chapter. She is also a former member of the Boston Estate Planning Council.

 

Daniel J. Galli, CFP®, M.Ed., ChFC, CLU

Instructor

Daniel GalliDan Galli is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner and principal of Daniel J. Galli & Associates, located in Norwell, Massachusetts. Dan began his financial services career in 1986. He has built a practice that includes a wide range of products and advisory services, including both fee-based financial planning and commission-based activity. Today, his practice focuses on retirement planning for professionals, small business owners, teachers, and other individuals, designing qualified retirement plans, maximizing savings, and managing assets. He is a registered representative of Ameritas Investment Corp. (AIC) with FINRA Series 7, 24, and 63 registrations.

Galli also works with PFE Advisors, LLC, of Southborough, Massachusetts, providing national educational workshops for employees of companies such as PepsiCo, FM Global, Analogic, Axcelis, FM Global, The Archdiocese of Boston, MathWorks, CRICO, MasterCard, AARP, Northern Trust, and others. From 1997 to 2005, he served as an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University in Boston, teaching courses in their CFP® program on retirement planning and employee benefits as well as insurance and financial planning. In 2005, he joined the adjunct faculty at Boston University, teaching FP 105 Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits as well as portions of FP110, the CFP® capstone course to prepare students for the national CFP® Comprehensive Examination. A contributing author and editor for the Retirement Planning and Employee Benefit sections of Boston University’s online Financial Planning Program, Galli also teaches the live online CFP® Retirement Planning course.

Dan has been a contributing writer to Jack Keir, Inc. a provider of educational materials for CFP® study. Galli has also been featured in the Boston Sunday Herald as part of their “Money Makeover” series on individual financial planning, and has been quoted in the Boston Globe and Boston Herald as well as other major publications. In conjunction with the Financial Planning Association of MA, he has coordinated a program about Personal Financial Chats for the Boston Globe’s website, boston.com. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association of MA as Director of Pro Bono projects, as well as President-Elect of the FPA for 2013 before taking over duties as President in 2014.

Galli holds a BS from Boston University and an M.Ed from Bridgewater State College. Dan is also a Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant as well as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. He lives in Marshfield, Massachusetts, with his wife Louise and has two grown children.

 

William B. Reeve, CFP®, MBA, CFA

Instructor

William ReeveBill Reeve is currently teaching tax and investment planning for Boston University’s Financial Planning Program, and teaches tax planning and case analysis for the Kaplan/Bisys/BU Review for the CFP® Exam. Additionally, Reeve has edited and written curricula for Boston University’s Online Program for Financial Planning. He is also an instructor for Northeastern University’s graduate program, teaching accounting, finance, and investment courses.

He previously taught financial planning courses for Merrimack College and Northeastern University, and at financial service firms such as John Hancock, American Express, Fidelity Investments, Merrill Lynch, etc. Reeve has also taught financial planning to employees of Pepsi, Shaws Supermarkets, and Excelon.

In addition to being a CFP® professional and a CFA charter holder, Reeve has an MBA in finance. Bill is a member of the FPA and BSAS, as well as one of the founding members of the Boston Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma. He is self-employed as an accountant and business consultant. From 1995 to 2005, he ran Sound Financial Planning, Inc., an investment advisory firm that specialized in portfolio management.

 

Kenneth Dean, CPA, CFP®, CFA, MST

Program Consultant

Kenneth DeanKen is a Certified Public Account (CPA) with a Master of Science degree in taxation. In addition, Ken holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner. He has provided accounting and tax services to personal clients for 25 years, and has 10 years of experience as an international tax manager, dealing with large multinational companies such as Degussa, Toshiba and Colgate-Palmolive. Ken earned his Master of Science in Taxation in 1995, and a State and Local Tax certification in 1999 from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Over the past 10 years, he has taught all sections of the CFP® curriculum for various CFP programs.

In addition to being an instructor in Boston University’s classroom Financial Planning Program, Ken is the online financial tutor and editor. He is a current member of the AICPA, NJSCPA, the Boston Security Analyst Society, and the CFA Institute.
